Shepard Fairey (American, b.1970) is a contemporary artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who emerged from the skateboarding scene. He is well-known for his work on the images of Andre the Giant and the word obey. The artist attended Idyllwild Arts Academy in Palm Springs, CA, and graduated in 1988. Shepard Fairey, sometimes known as 'Obey' which is a slogan he uses on the 'Andre the Giant' stencils, began revolutionizing street art in the late 1980's. In 2008 was involved in Hope, an iconic portrait of the American president Barack Obama produced during the American presidential campaigns. Fairey has been involved in both solo and group exhibitions in different places around the world. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
